Mortal Kombat is a fighting game where knowing your character is very crucial. The more you know your character, the more you will be able to use them effectively.
Every game has its mechanics. Even if you have played other fighting games you still need to know how the mechanics of Mortal Kombat 11 works.
All the Mortal Kombat characters have different playstyles and variations for each playstyle. Choosing a character suitable for your playstyle and mastering all the moves and variations takes time. So while mastering your character you can learn other things that will augment your learning progress.
Here is the Mortal Kombat 11 Guide for Beginners
1. Choosing a Character
A lot of players make the mistake of not choosing the main character. They don’t have the main character. They just play using random characters.
At first, try to find which character you are compatible with playing. There are 31 characters, and mastering all of them will take a huge time.
So, have a character that you will use most of the time. In that way, you will be able to master a certain character and playstyle. This will benefit you in most of the matches. You can choose from the MK11 Tier list characters.
When you have mastered your main character try other characters to know about their attack style. This way, you will have a basic knowledge of your opponent’s character.

2. Using Mix-Up Playstyle
It’s a playstyle where you use upper and lower attacks most of the time. It makes your opponent confused. Because they can’t block upper and lower attacks at the same time.
It is also called 50/50 as there is a 50% chance of success for both the enemy and you.
This playstyle helps you against defensive players that are hard to hit. All Mortal Kombat 11 characters can use this though some are more effective in this playstyle.
3. Frame Data
For a beginner, it will be confusing. Because there are only texts and numbers. If you can use this data, it will help you to decide when and which move to use.
We will give a simple explanation. Here, frames are like time.
If you see here, the Lunging Brute has startup, active, and recovery frame numbers.
Simply, the less the startup and recovery number is the better that is. If the number of startups is lesser than 13 then the move will hit the target much faster. The recovery number means after executing a move how much time it will take to do any other move. So, again, if the recovery number is less than 24 you will be able to make another move faster.
You can see there are also Cancel, Hit adv, and Block adv frame numbers.
Block advantage has +numbers and -numbers. By +numbers when you make a move and if the opponents block it then both of you won’t move for the amount written like for this it’s 1 frame.
If it’s a -number like 15 frames then if the opponent blocks the attack only you will not be able to move for 15 frames. If your opponent has an attack move that requires 14 frames then he/she will be able to attack you and you can’t do anything.

4. Whiff Punishing
You can punish your opponent if they make a mistake.
We mentioned about recovery frame before. When an opponent makes an attack move, the character needs some time or frame to be able to do anything else.
When your opponent misses an attack move, you can use their recovery frame or time to make an attack move to deal damage and this is called whiff punishing.
There is a high chance of success because they will be unable to do anything at that time.
For example, if your opponents have moves that need 24 frames to recovery. You can use any attack that’s startup frame is less than 24 frames.
The same thing applies to the opponent too. So, don’t try to use moves with a high recovery frame number all the time.
5. Use of Fatal Blow
When your health is 30% or less your fatal blow gets activated. Every character has their unique animation for their fatal blows.
A fatal blow is very important when your health is under 30%. You only get 1 fatal blow per round. So you can’t miss that.
To make sure your fatal blow hits your opponent, you can use some kombos. The kombos depend on your character. You can find it or create your own kombo.

Conclusion:
Before we go, you should do all the training the game has. It will give you the basics of the game and you can practice your kombos and other moves there. Play single and multiplayer matches as much as possible. Even, if you get defeated, you will know where you did wrong and focus on that later.
